Spotlight: South African Jewelry from Papillon Belle

Papillon Belle jewelry is designed by Cape Town-based graphic designer and illustrator Audrey Botha.

The average butterfly only lives between one day and four weeks – but these pendants immortalize their delicate wings for decades to come.

“I wanted to create a range of timeless, classic pieces that could become family heirlooms at a time when disposable consumables seem to dominate our world,” Botha said.

The butterflies used in her jewelry come from a sustainable farming project that enables farmers from third-world countries to keep the rain forests on their land intact, while still providing a livelihood for their families.
